International buyers increasingly expect suppliers to demonstrate working conditions, material origin and emissions data. TÜV NORD Vietnam provides the independent audits and certifications most widely used in export supply chains.
Buyer codes of conduct
Brands and retailers typically set labour, safety and business ethics requirements in a supplier code of conduct. To verify them, they accept shared audit programmes such as amfori BSCI and Sedex SMETA, or ask for SA8000 certification. BSCI and SMETA are audits whose results are shared on the programme platforms; SA8000 is a certifiable social accountability management system standard. Which programme applies depends on each customer.
Before applying, clarify the programme and version required, the audit type (announced, semi-announced or unannounced) and when your customer needs the result. This helps plan the audit around your production schedule.
Timber origin and the EUDR
For furniture, paper and packaging, FSC Chain of Custody certification helps demonstrate that wood comes from responsibly managed sources. The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) covers wood, cattle leather and other commodities; under Regulation (EU) 2025/2650, obligations for large and medium operators apply from 30 December 2026. FSC certification does not replace EUDR due diligence, but it can support the gathering of origin information.
Quality, environment and emissions
ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are often baseline requirements in supplier evaluations. A growing number of brands set supply-chain emission targets and ask factories to report greenhouse gases; an ISO 14064-1 inventory with independent verification makes that data more credible.
Combining ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 audits, and aligning the timing of social audits, can reduce the number of audit days at your site.

No. amfori BSCI and Sedex SMETA are audit programmes; reports and results are shared with customers through each programme’s platform. SA8000 is a certification.
Should we choose BSCI, SMETA or SA8000?
That depends on your buyers. Confirm with your customers which programme they accept before booking an audit.
Does FSC certification mean we comply with the EUDR?
No. The EUDR requires its own due diligence, including geolocation and legality information. FSC certification can support gathering origin information but does not replace these obligations.
