Manufacturing and energy-intensive industry

Energy costs, decarbonisation targets and carbon rules in export markets are changing how manufacturers operate. TÜV NORD Vietnam provides independent certification and verification so organisations can demonstrate their management performance.

Energy management under ISO 50001

ISO 50001 requires an energy baseline, energy performance indicators and continual improvement. For designated key energy users that must implement energy management under Vietnamese law, ISO 50001 certification helps demonstrate a systematically operated energy management system.

Energy data collected under ISO 50001, such as metering of significant energy uses, also feeds directly into greenhouse gas inventories and customer sustainability questionnaires.

Greenhouse gases and CBAM

The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) entered its definitive period on 1 January 2026, covering EU imports of goods such as iron and steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers, hydrogen and electricity. EU importers need emissions data from producers. An organisational greenhouse gas inventory under ISO 14064-1 with independent verification provides a reliable data foundation and meets customer and investor reporting requests. Note: ISO 14064-1 verification does not replace the separate verification procedures under CBAM rules.

Environment, safety and quality

ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 share a common structure with ISO 50001 and can be audited together. In sectors with high occupational safety and environmental risks, an integrated management system supports consistent risk control.

A single audit team covering several standards also gives management one consolidated picture of compliance obligations, risks and improvement opportunities.

Frequently asked questions

Can ISO 14064-1 verification be used for CBAM?
Inventory data can be a useful input, but CBAM uses product-level embedded emissions methods and its own verification requirements. Check against the current CBAM rules.
Is ISO 50001 mandatory?
ISO 50001 is a voluntary standard. It is, however, often of interest to customers and investors and helps demonstrate systematic energy management.
Can ISO 50001 and ISO 14001 be audited together?
Yes. Both share a common structure and many similar processes, so a combined audit can be planned.
