Quality under IATF 16949
IATF 16949 sets the quality management system requirements for the automotive industry. It builds on ISO 9001 and adds sector-specific requirements and customer-specific requirements (CSRs). Many OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers expect component manufacturers to hold IATF 16949 certification. For organisations not yet eligible for IATF 16949, ISO 9001 is often the first step.
IATF 16949 certification follows the IATF Rules, including requirements on audit duration, nonconformity closure and the scope of supporting functions such as design centres or warehouses that serve the manufacturing site.
Information security with TISAX
Suppliers involved in product development or handling drawings, prototypes or OEM data are often asked for a TISAX assessment result based on the VDA ISA catalogue. TISAX is not a certificate: results (labels) are shared via the ENX platform. ISO/IEC 27001 provides a strong foundation for the organisation’s information security management system.
The assessment level and the scope (objectives such as information with high or very high protection needs, prototype protection or data protection) are defined by the OEM’s requirements.
Environment and occupational safety
Environmental and occupational safety requirements are common in OEM supplier codes of conduct. ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification helps demonstrate an effective management system and can be audited together with IATF 16949 to reduce production disruption.
